social media statisticsThere’s nothing quite like a statistic to make you feel in touch with your world. And there is nothing quite like a statistic to make you feel out-of-touch with your world.

250,000,000 photos is a lot of pixels

Barack Obama’s victory tweet was the most retweeted tweet ever with over 800K retweets. (source: The Guardian)  This really was predictable and did not surprise me.

But, I find this hard to believe (NOT) = 85 percent of women are annoyed by their friends on Facebook. (source: AllTwitter)

The top 5 of the top 100 hash tags on Instagram are #love, #instagood, #me, #tbt and #cute. (source: Statigram)  #love is before #me? Well, that might be #instagood.

Marketing people want in every way to become a Facebook presence because of the number of people it represents. Online. EverydaySo who wouldn’t believe we are here — Monthly active users on Facebook now total nearly 850 million. (source: Jeff Bullas)

As of 2012, — 210,000 years of music have been played on Facebook. (source: Gizmodo)  I’m pretty sure that Facebook has not been around for 210,000 years – haha.  Of course, there is more than one person listening to all that music. I like to think it might make us kinder, gentler…

250 million photos are uploaded to Facebook every day. (source: Jeff Bullas) Ok, does Facebook “own” these photos? Back to checking my privacy settings…

69 percent of follows on Twitter are suggested by friends. (source: Web Analytics World) Once again, that’s how I find who to follow, so not too revealing.

43 percent of people prefer Pinterest to associate with retailers or brands; 24 percent chose Facebook. (source: All Facebook)  I really don’t go there looking for things to buy, but I guess I am in the shrinking majority.

43 percent of Facebook users are male, while 57 percent of Facebook users are female. (source: Uberly)

Only 8 percent of Americans 12+ have a Google+ profile page. (source: Edison Research)  Ok moms, we took over Facebook, I think we could work harder on the Google+ presence.  However, you know, the youngsters will just move on, — again.

Social Media Statistics – and why I stuck this up here

Recently someone told me that iPhone accounts for 70% of all social media interaction.  While I thought that was intriguing, since I don’t own an iPhone, I thought it might be nice to confirm this statistic. Owning (or not owning) an iPhone might be driven by my findings.

It’s not as easy to verify as it would seem, — but I DID find lots of very interesting statistics.  Some people see run of the mill statistics and then take the time to create graphics that reflect them.  I must say, maybe it’s my age or my fixation on words-over-images that made this absolutely fascinating to me.

Results of my Google search that gave me this Pause and Reflect moment:
